      <title>Nighttime + El Winstanley + Codiad Y Môr</title>
      <support/>
<description>Nighttime come to Oxford (from LA!) for the first time - they are touring their wonderful new record ‘Looking Glass’ and play The Library on Sun 9th August alongside El Winstanley and Codiad Y Môr for a night of sweet, interesting and beautiful song!

Nighttime’s last record ‘Keeper is the Heart’ was one of our favourite records of recent years and we’ve luckily been helping them with their forthcoming UK dates and are excited to see Eva Louise Goodman’s songs in the flesh with her trio of troubadours - expect a mesmerising, cosmic folk explosion! Eva’s voice and and the music she’s created is quite something!

El Winstanley is back in town with her warm, sparkling bilingual harmonies and inventively layered multi-instrumental tunes - often using bass guitar, melodica, omnichord and more to create a unique musical world!

Our good friend Codiad Y Môr brings his lo-fi solo instrumental guitar songs to the basement to open up this intriguing evening! We loved his first show back in April and we’re excited for more of his stark folk leanings!

An earlyish show with doors at 6pm and music 6:30-9pm!

Featuring – Hattie Chandler + Hymns For Horses + Amber + Carolina Diego

The Spice of Life is a Soho landmark, historic music venue and is in the heart of London's West End.

Renowned for having a great live sound The Spice of Life and Substance have worked together for over 18 years to bring the very best new music to the heart of the capital.

"One of the best little venues in London" Evening Standard

The Line up
Hattie Chandler
Hattie is an independent emerging UK singer-songwriter with a voice that blends soul, country, and the timeless spirit of 70s rock. Currently based along the south coast, she draws inspiration from artists like Stevie Nicks, Barbra Streisand, and Linda Ronstadt, blending these ’70s influences with her own modern sound.

Having toured extensively in the UK and abroad, Hattie is now setting her sights on securing a record deal with a major label through her newly released EP, a setlist featuring lyrical, soft songs alongside highly energetic country-infused tracks.

Hymns For Horses
Teiger's bassist's singer-songwriter affair leaning towards the bitter end of the transatlantic folk spectrum.

Mostly acoustic, mostly raconteur, mostly jaded.

      <description>Light Of Eternity
Featuring Big Paul Ferguson (Killing Joke), Pauly Williams (Chaos 8) &amp; Fred Schreck (The Ancients)
The Crescent, York
Sunday 9th August, Doors 6.30pm

*This is a standing show*

Big Paul Ferguson – drummer, co-founder, co-writer of the seminal UK band Killing Joke, and former member of Murder Inc., Crush and The Orb, has joined forces with guitarist/writer Pauly Williams former member of UK industrial rock band Chaos 8 and Fred Schreck, vocalist, bass player and writer of NYC-based rock band The Ancients and Crush, to form a new band named Light of Eternity (LOE).

Started in August of 2024 as a side project, LOE quickly became the focal point for the musical skills of each of these seasoned musicians.

With plans to release new material every few months, their aim is to expand their audience with their power, depth, and emotional charge.

Sonicabuse
Aftershock is a lean follow-up to Edge of Fate EP that, somewhat remarkably, manages to improve on what was already a pretty perfect mix. The chemistry between Big Paul, Fred, and Pauly is evident for all to see, the songwriting engaging, and the production spot on – neatly capturing both the power of the band and the nuances that make the music so special. I came to this EP expecting something extraordinary, and Light of Eternity more than delivered. What a way to start 2025!

Louder Than War
Light Of Eternity perfectly soundtrack these dark energy times. Their muse seems to feed on the terror headlines and dystopian madness of the 21st century and they turn it into huge slabs of shadowy sound that sounds like a Hans Zimmer on steroids and a diet of dark media.
If this is the end of times, I think we have found the soundtrack, and it sounds great…

      <support>+ Big Warm Bed + Milly Renu</support>
<description>Steve Gunn Announces Daylight Daylight; Shares “Nearly There”
First New Studio Album in 4 years is out November 7th

Steve Gunn has been at the vanguard of American experimental / guitar-oriented rock music for over a decade. After a trio of acclaimed albums recorded for Matador, Gunn will release his 7th studio record – and first in 4 years – on November 7th.

With Daylight, Daylight, Gunn wanted to capture something of the intimacy of playing solo, the sense of possibility and discovery that sparks when he sits down to write, while also creating a rich sonic world for the listener to inhabit. Rather than pulling together a band to flesh the songs out, as he’s done on previous albums, he enlisted a single primary collaborator: producer James Elkington, an old friend and longtime collaborator (who also produced Gunn’s 2019 album The Unseen In Between).

Elkington is known as a guitarist, but Gunn asked him to contribute arrangements of strings and woodwinds, inspired in part by the music they’ve talked about over the years (ie. Mark Hollis, Ennio Morricone, The Fall, Basil Kirchin) and the evolution of their own relationship making records - both together, and with others. They soon found a fruitful working process for Daylight Daylight: Gunn would record solo demos and send them to Elkington, who had free rein to develop the arrangements on his own.

Working primarily out of Elkington’s Nada Studios in Chicago, they would continue adding from there—a whisper of a synthesizer, a guitar overdub, a muted percussion line—but they were committed to the relative spareness of their initial approach. Macie Stewart (violins and viola), Ben Whiteley (cellos), Nick Macri (upright bass) and Hunter Diamond (woodwinds) also contributed.

      <support>With support from Bones Shake</support>
<description>Born of the voices of past lives and baptised in the dust bowl dirt, the Gothic Americana music of the Heathen Apostles hankers back to a bygone chapter of American history. Using contrasting influences such as Bauhaus, Nick Cave &amp; the Bad Seeds and The Pogues along with Howlin’ Wolf, Loretta Lynn and Bessie Smith, the Heathen Apostles have created a style of music that at once conjures both angels and demons, and will enlighten a darkened soul.

      <title>Frank Sinatra &amp; Friends</title>
<support>Stephen Triffitt, original West End Frank Sinatra, leads a live Rat Pack show with Darren Charles as Sammy Davis Jr. and Hannah Lindsey as Nancy Sinatra</support>
<description>Stephen Triffitt created the role of Frank Sinatra in the original West End production of The Rat Pack Live from Las Vegas, then took it to Atlantic City and three seasons at the Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, the actual room where Sinatra performed. He has since sold out the London Palladium twice and the Royal Festival Hall, and has his name on the London Palladium Hall of Fame. Frank Sinatra Jr said he was the best. That is the standard of what is coming to Boisdale.

Darren Charles played Sammy Davis Jr alongside Triffitt for a while, which means the chemistry between Frank and Sammy in this show is not manufactured for the occasion. Hannah Lindsey, who has performed in the West End production of Dear Evan Hansen and toured in Rat Pack Live in Las Vegas as the female vocalist, joins as Nancy Sinatra, covering "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'", "Bang Bang" and the 1967 UK number one duet "Somethin' Stupid".

The set moves through the Frank canon: "Fly Me to the Moon", "My Way", "New York New York" and the songs Sammy made his own including "Mr. Bojangles" and "The Candy Man", all played live with a full big band. What made the original Rat Pack shows at the Sands work was not just the songs but the room, the wit and the sense that the performers were genuinely enjoying themselves. That part has not been lost.

<description>Nighttime come to Carmarthen (and Wales) for the first time from LA - they are touring their wonderful new record ‘Looking Glass’ and play CWRW on Weds 12th August!

      <title>Jonny Couch</title>
      <support>Veronica Bianqui+ Three Birds Whisper + DJs</support>
<description>Jonny Couch - from The Choke, breath stopping punky indie rockers of yore, Power pop, indie, psych and punk, even a little synth pop- all in the mix for singing drummer JC.

Melodic and memorable tunes with plenty of sass and across the board appeal. Jonny Couch , for it is he, is now NYC-based, and this is Jonny’s full band album launch party/London release show. Cool.

Veronica Bianqui - As her Bandcamp page (a groovy place to hang out) says Veronica B reckons herself to be ‘a reformed bad girl with heavy riffs’. Like early B-52s meets Bikini Kill. And a little out thereness too.

Three Birds Whisper - French stoner rock/grunge band. Pretty meaty too, Nirvana resonate, plus some grounding in the psychedelic blues of early Hendrix and the monolithic riff pls of classic Black Sabbath.

      <title>Amy Winehouse by Lucy Randell</title>
<support>Performing “Back to Black”, “Rehab”, “Valerie” and more</support>
<description>“It’s rare you see such an effortless talent. Lucy is charismatic and cool through and through.” – Mathew Bridgeman, Promoter

Lucy Randell approaches Amy Winehouse’s catalogue with a deep respect for its musical complexity. She emphasizes timing, phrasing and tonal contrast, the way Winehouse would land a word just behind the beat or hang a note into silence, rather than surface imitation. Lucy rejects mimicry; she interprets the songs through her own jazz and soul sensibility.

Her career includes features with session groups and appearances around the UK and Australia, and she has performed at venues like Ronnie Scott’s, The Jazz Café and KOKO, stages Amy herself frequented. In a Camden Market event, Lucy articulated her method:

“To sing Amy Winehouse you have to recognise that rhythm and tonal texture, and her timing. You really have to listen to how she lands her syllables.” Camden New Journal

Expect a set drawn from Back to Black and Frank, delivered with Lucy’s own instrumentation and arrangements. Highlights often include “Valerie,” “Tears Dry On Their Own,” “Rehab,” “Back to Black,” “Love Is a Losing Game”. She yields space for the band, piano, upright bass, guitar, drums, to echo Amy’s roots in jazz, soul and R&amp;B.

Boisdale’s live-music restaurant environment favours nuance over volume. You’ll hear every breath, every inflection, every phrase in a close listening context. The essence lies in musical conversation, between Lucy and the songs, more than spectacle.

Visit our Hine Bar and Heated Garden Terrace located on the 1st floor for pre &amp; post-show drinks!

      <title>The Carpenters Experience</title>
      <support/>
      <description>Unmissable Afternoon Matinee!

The Carpenters' holiday music has become synonymous with the yuletide season through the decades for millions of listeners of all generations who have cherished The Carpenters legacy.

The Carpenters were of course an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of siblings Karen (1950–1983) and Richard Carpenter (born 1946). They produced a distinct soft musical style, combining Karen's contralto vocals with Richard's harmonizing, arranging and composition skills. During their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded ten albums, along with numerous singles and several television specials.

They first performed together as a duo in 1965 and formed the jazz-oriented Richard Carpenter Trio . Signing as Carpenters to A&amp;M Records in 1969, they achieved major success the following year with the hit singles "(They Long to Be) Close to You" and "We've Only Just Begun". Subsequently, the duo's brand of melodic pop produced a record-breaking run of hit recordings on the American Top 40 and Adult Contemporary charts, and they became leading sellers in the soft rock, easy listening and adult contemporary music genres. With sales of more than 90 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time and they are there in this amazing recreation show performed by The Carpenters Experience.

The hits will just keep on coming: *They Long to Be Close to You * For All We Know * Goodbye to Love * I Need To Be In Love * I Won't Last A Day Without You * Jambalaya (On The Bayou) * Merry Christmas Darling * Only Yesterday * Rainy Days And Mondays * Solitaire * Superstar * Sweet Sweet Smile * Top Of The World * We've Only Just Begun * Yesterday Once More and many more!

Sadly, their career together ended in 1983 when Karen died from heart failure brought on by complications of anorexia. Extensive news coverage surrounding these circumstances increased public awareness of eating disorders. Though the Carpenters were criticized for their clean-cut and wholesome conservative image in the 1970s, their music has since been re-evaluated, attracting critical acclaim and continued commercial success.

Their music lives on and this special matinee show should not be missed.

This show is reserved seating and Picnic Area. Reserved Seating is fully undercover.

Picnic Area: Located to the outside of the structure on the grass to the left. This has a good view of the stage and show sound. You are allowed to bring food, pop-up chairs and small tables but not alcohol.

      <support>The Bad Cadillacs + DJ Fuzz</support>
<description>Singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer KING ZEPHA fronts an all-star band, performing original music influenced by ska, rocksteady, dub, jazz, soul and global rhythms.

From huge festivals, such as Glastonbury and Boomtown Fair, to intimate grassroots venues, the band have captivated audiences with their honkin' horns, thumpin' double bass and stunning 3-part vocal harmonies.

“Outstanding" (Craig Charles, BBC 6 Music) "Seriously funky" (James Morrison, BBC Radio 2)

The Bad Cadillacs - playing a Saturday night friendly cornucopia of punk, new wave, ska and indie corkers, these boys may be gas guzzlers but they’re a stylish way to arrive for a great night out.

Hans Deville - and ensure you arrive promptly at 7.30 for this great night out coz you’re in for a massive treat to open proceedings. Some time King Prawn guitarist and songwriter Devil Hands, one full moon nacht, took a backwards glance in the mirror and envisioned himself as a Spaghetti Western, punk noir demon, replete with a chorus of twang and mystical moods. Mmmmm marvellous.

DJ Fuzz- til 2. Which is of course, always likewise, marvellous.

      <title>The Bats</title>
      <support>+ Lande Hekt + Amber &amp; Ryan</support>
<description>Some AI bot generated this passage when we asked if the Bats were Psych Pop..
“Yes. The Bats incorporate elements of psych pop into their music. While they are known for their broader sound, which includes twisted wistful folk, psychedelic rock, and bouncy twee pop, they definitely have a strong psych pop influence. Their sound is characterized by catchy melodies, jangly guitars, and sometimes a dreamy, psychedelic atmosphere, which aligns with the psych pop genre.” - Fare enough - So here we go ....

New Zealand’s indie “psych pop” band, The Bats, are gearing up for their Corner Coming Up album release day with the highlight of performing and chatting on Jesse Mulligan’s RNZ Afternoon Live session on Friday 17th Oct. This will be followed by an early evening instore performance at Flying Nun’s Christchurch shop.

The new album (number 11!) was recorded in Port Chalmers at The Historic Chicks Hotel studio with Tex Houston as producer. Expect some moving music, both on the dance floor and in your hearts.

A first taste from the recording session was an NZOnAir video/single, Loline, that was shared with the world in April. It was created by reknowned NZ filmaker, Martin Sagadin, filming the Bats at the James Hay Theatre at the Go Live Festival in the Christchurch Town Hall last year (photo below). Next page shows a still from the Waikuku beach village Loline filming location.

This is a rare opportunity to hear stripped back versions from her catalogue, with some songs in the set that are rarely performed in concert. And speaking of Mr. Plant, he once said of Slowburner: "Great band and Paul Bridgwater is a great singer who continues the tradition of British blues soul singers" ... and praise don't come higher than that!

<description>Rhabstallion (UK) &amp; Black Stars (Italy) bring raw rock to London.
Rhabstallion. -- A four piece all original NWOBHM band from Halifax, West Yorkshire bring a melodic style to their genre. Quote from Power metal Magazine Germany “These NWOBHM heroes prove how to serve up old fashioned rock in a fresh way today.”
Superb song writing skills along with the ability to play their unique blend of hard rock live and loud has made many a music fan in the UK as well as Europe prick their ears up to see what they are all about.
Black Stars. -- Formed in Milan in June 2022 by Max Adams, the lineup brings together veterans of the Hard &amp; Heavy scene (ex-members of Crimson Dawn, Opera Noire, and Crossbones). Deeply rooted in the visceral rock of the '80s and '90s, the album is a manifesto of pure energy: killer riffs, gritty vocals, and a raw, uncompromising production. It’s a record that boldly declares real rock is more alive than ever.

<description>Run by the people, for the people, Synth Club is a hangout for those interested in making music/sounds using electronic hardware. Live sets, demos and talks; polished or first-timers, whacky or experimental - we love it all. Book to play or walk-in on the night. We encourage people to bring kit along even if they don't fancy playing, as this allows others to see instruments they might not otherwise own. This helps facilitate the sharing of tips and tricks and promotes an interest in the hardware we all get excited about listening to and using. <title>Ken Nicol's Lockstep</title>
      <support/>
<description>Playing with Ken in LOCKSTEP are: Paul Burgess (10CC) - drums, Norm Helm - bass, Wendy Ross - violin (Magna Carta)

Ken is a highly acclaimed musician, singer, songwriter, producer, playwright and composer. Ken has been a member of Steeleye Span and The Albion Band and worked with artists ranging from Al Stewart to Phil Cool.

He has recording credits on more than 50 albums. Ken plays acoustic and electric guitar, resonator guitar, 5-string banjo, mandolin and ukulele. Ken's music ranges from folk to ragtime, blues to rock, ballads to jazz, amazingly intricate instrumentals to singalong comedy numbers. Ken has toured extensively in the UK and throughout Europe, the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Born in Preston, Lancashire, he had early success as one half of Nicol &amp; Marsh's Easy Street along with Pete Marsh. They recorded four albums on the CBS and Polydor labels, and moved to Los Angeles in the late-1970s. Returning to the UK in 1989, Ken recorded solo albums Living In A Spanish Town, Two Frets From The Blues, as well as working with other artists including Chris While, now of renowned duo While &amp; Matthews.

In 1996, Ken started working with Ashley Hutchings - the man who founded British folk-rock giants Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and The Albion Band. It was to prove a very fruitful partnership which continues to this day. Ken has worked with Ashley in The Ashley Hutchings Dance Band, The Albion Band and as a duo. After recording four albums with The Albion Band and continuing to record and release his own solo albums, Ken joined legendary folk-rockers Steeleye Span in 2002, touring the world and recording a further four albums with the band.

In early 2010 Ken took the difficult decision to leave Steeleye Span, in order to concentrate on his many other projects which see him performing across the UK and Europe, both as a solo artist and as part of various duos. He's also co-host of the Internet radio show, FolkCast, which has thousands of listeners all around the world. Another of his musical partnerships is with British comedy star Phil Cool, and in 2009 that duo played as special guests to folk-rock giants Fairport Convention on their 40-date UK tour.

Ken recorded his experiences of a very busy year as a touring musician in an online blog, which he is currently expanding into a semi-autobiographical book. In November 2011, Ken's own dramatic production 'The Glass Chronicles' took to the stage for the first time for six performances at the High Barn in Essex. Featuring a cast of twelve musicians and actors, The Glass Chronicles was inspired by his own remarkable and positive experiences with a Ouija board. The show is being developed for further performances during 2012 and 2013.

What others say about Ken Nicol:

“Formidable and painstakingly acquired skills on both acoustic and electric guitars, a very high class player indeed. Flexible too. He seems comfortable with whatever style is tossed at him.”Martin Carthy

“I first met Ken when we collaborated on an Ashley Hutchings song on his last album. I was amazed at Ken’s beautiful ragtime guitar style. He has such a great way of delivering a story and gently laying down the punch line. Humour, great guitar skill and the right drop of humility, and a passion for right, proper, good music.”Ralph McTell

“Ken Nicol is a consummate musician. A guitarist of broad scope, a sensitive singer and an intelligent writer of songs with stirring melodies. A musical paragon.”Maddy Prior“

It’s difficult for me to imagine a more talented all rounder than Ken; both as singer and guitarist.”Ashley Hutchings“Prodigiously talented.”Clive Pownceby (BBC Radio 2)KEN NICOL'S "INITIAL VARIATIONS"

      <title>Light of the World</title>
<support>Brit funk originators Light of the World play "London Town", "I Shot the Sheriff" and more across two live sets.</support>
      <description>Table reservations from 6pm | Live Music: 9pm

'True pioneers... a legendary live show' - Gordon Mac MBE, Mi-Soul Radio

Light of the World formed in London in 1978 and spent the next four years building the architecture of British jazz-funk, the sound that everything from Soul II Soul to Jamiroquai would later build on. Their 1980 album Round Trip charted in the UK and that same year "London Town" and "I Shot the Sheriff" both hit the Top 40. The original collective was so fertile it eventually split three ways, with Jean-Paul Maunick going on to found Incognito and other members forming Beggar &amp; Co. That lineage is the context, not a footnote.

Today the band is led by Gee Bello and Mel Gaynor, whose combined CVs span George Michael, Kathy Sledge, Simple Minds and David Bowie. In 2020 they returned with Jazz Funk Power, produced by Nigel Martinez, which spent six weeks at number one on the UK Soul Charts. The album is available on the night and the band are still writing and recording, which puts them in a different category from acts running purely on legacy.

Live they field an eight-piece: two vocalists, keys, bass, guitar, trumpet and a horn section, which is how this music is supposed to sound. Expect "London Town", "I Shot the Sheriff", "No.1 Girl", "Time", "Pete's Crusade", "Ride the Love Train" and tracks from Jazz Funk Power across two 45-minute sets. Forty-five years in, the rhythm section still does the work.

      <title>DJ Nights: Mi-Soul Radio Fridays</title>
<support>Mi-Soul Radio DJs bring soul, house and R&amp;B to Boisdale every Friday. </support>
      <description>Dinner &amp; Table Reservations from 5pm. DJs from 7pm-2am

Boisdale has Jools Holland as Patron of Music, a live programme that runs seven nights a week and a NEXO sound system installed because the music demands it. Mi-Soul Radio has Gordon Mac MBE, Kiss FM in its DNA and thirty years of soul, house and R&amp;B running through everything it does. On Friday nights the two come together on the first floor and the result is exactly what you would hope for.

The selectors rotate through the Mi-Soul roster each week, which keeps the sets fresh without ever dropping the standard. Deep soulful house one Friday, classic R&amp;B the next, but always played by someone who has a genuine relationship with the music rather than a playlist and a laptop. Start on the heated terrace with a cocktail overlooking Cabot Square, move inside when the night builds and let the sound system do the rest.

First Floor Bar &amp; Heated Garden Terrace

Nestled in Cabot Square and overlooking the fountain with the Canary Wharf skyline beyond, the first floor bar and heated garden terrace is a destination in its own right. Fine wines, premium spirits and expertly crafted cocktails, with a selection that covers everything from rare whiskies to classic and signature serves.

Pair your drink with Scottish cuisine, fresh seafood, steaks, burgers, pizzas and more. The bar hosts DJ nights Thursday through Saturday and brunch on the terrace every Saturday and Sunday.

      <title>Ultimate ELO</title>
      <support/>
<description>ELO helped form the soundtrack to the seventies, and “Ultimate ELO” play sets packed with all the disco hits and lighter waving anthems that will have everyone singing and dancing along.

The mid to late 70’s pop charts were dominated by ELO. Think about those massive hits: Livin’ Thing, Telephone Line, Mr Blue Sky, Sweet Talkin’ Woman, Turn To Stone, Wild West Hero, The Diary Of Horace Wimp, Don’t Bring Me Down, Shine A Little Love, All Over The World, Xanadu and many more.
Ultimate ELO is fronted a Jeff Lynne lookalike / soundalike tribute and is a live band with no backing tracks. As well as capturing the energy of ELO in their 1970’s prime, the sound and vocals the band produce are uncannily like those heard on those classic records.
Ultimate ELO look forward to welcoming you, playing many of these hits from the amazing Jeff Lynne songbook.

Gnarfest came from wanting to do things differently.

After playing loads of gigs that felt more about money than music, this is about bringing it back to what it should be — bands playing to a full room, people discovering new music, and everyone just having a good time.

It’s inspired by the kind of nights where you’re with your mates, music’s on, and nothing else really matters.

This is a small capacity venue (250 max)
Once it’s full, it’s full

Get down early, support all the bands, and don’t miss it.

<title>Joshua Arnold and Therine plus support from Magpahi</title>
<support>Vocal and hurdy gurdy led drone folk horror</support>
<description>Joshua Arnold and Therine are a drone folk duo from the North West consisting of hurdy gurdy player Joshua Arnold and vocalist Therine. As a live act they perform droning, instrumentally eclectic versions of songs in the British folk canon showcasing themes of the dark and macabre alongside thudding Playford tunes and original experimental doom folk backed by dense loops of upright bass, harmonium, drums and DIY instrument drones.

Magpahi
Magpahi is the enigmatic and haunting music of composer, visual artist and curator Alison Cooper. In a connective exploration of sound she works to develop new understandings between narratives of landscape, material culture and human interaction. Influenced by the intriguing nature of archive and museum collections, Alison’s work bridges historic narratives bringing them into a contemporary space. Narratives and emotional spaces which can never truly be replicated, only re-visioned. The collecting and research of deeply personal accounts &amp; anecdotes, studying of archives, folklore, material culture and landscape are central to her work.

As a song writer and composer, writing lyrics, melody and various instrumental accompaniments give her the freedom to compose witout limits.

Skilled with a unique vocal style and adept multi instrumentalist Alison works across both acoustic (guitar, flute, piano, recorder, harmonium) and electronic instruments (analogue synthesisers, Fx units and samples). Recording in her home studio gives the flexibility to create unique sounds. Alison’s enigmatic vocal style has been described as an “abstract(ly) hint at higher powers, as if she is immersed in a primeval choir that has somehow been beamed into the 21st century.” (The Quietus)

Having toured the UK and Europe she also has numerous releases via labels Twisted Nerve, Bird Records, Finders Keepers Records, Folklore Tapes and A Year in the Country. Alison works as a visual artist in a variety of mediums including photography, printmaking, animation, textiles and has a foundation course in herbal medicine.

Recent clients include Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Manchester International Festival, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, Jane Weaver, Folklore Tapes, In-Situ (Pendle), Gallery Oldham, Touchstones Rochdale Art Gallery &amp; Museum, Edwin Waugh Dialect Society, Hebden Bridge Arts Festival, Ebor Studio, Yorkshire Sound Women Network, South Square Gallery, Littleborough Arts Festival, Salford University and The Whittaker Museum (Rawtenstall).

      <title>1111 Fest</title>
      <support>Adelphi Music Factory</support>
<description>Following the huge success of the 1111 Clubs, Lauren – aka 1111– is taking things up a level and bringing the vibes to The Pioneer with 1111 FEST. This event will be a fundraiser for The Pioneer Club with them recieving all of the ticket revenue to help them continue their vital work with young people and the community!

This is an outdoor‑focused daytime rave, with most of the event taking place outside, making the most of The Pioneer’s open‑air spaces . Set in the (hopefully) golden August sunshine, 1111 Fest runs from 2–7pm, giving you a full afternoon of music, dancing, and summer energy. There’s still plenty of time afterwards to grab dinner, head home and be tucked up by 10… or carry on elsewhere if the mood takes you 🔥
Lauren shared:
“The Pioneer is a really important part of my story as a music artist. I spent a huge chunk of my youth there – going to gigs, hanging out, and eventually taking part in music workshops that genuinely helped shape the direction of my life.
When I was younger, someone there told me I had a gift. That belief had a massive impact on me – it gave me confidence and really cemented my decision to pursue music seriously. I honestly don’t think I’d be where I am today without spaces like The Pioneer.
To now be bringing events back there years later feels incredibly full circle. It’s more than just a venue to me – it’s part of my upbringing, my community, and my journey into music.”
Expect a day full of sun‑soaked energy, open‑air dancing, great food, and feel‑good vibes. The atmosphere will be relaxed, welcoming, and all about enjoying music together in a beautiful outdoor setting.
Children are welcome, but please note that this is a music‑led event at its heart – think outside dancing, chilled daytime rave vibes, and a brilliant summer atmosphere for everyone

      <title>Jeffrey Silverstein &amp; Bobby Lee</title>
      <support>Black Brunswicker</support>
<description>We’re delighted to welcome Jeffrey Silverstein and Bobby Lee to Kamera - with Black Brunswicker!

Jeffrey Silverstein is a songwriter from Portland, Oregon. His music lives at the intersection of the loner-folk, cosmic country and kraut-laden choogle. He’s just signed with Full Time Hobby. Having played shows throughout the US with such names as Steve Gunn, William Tyler, Rose City Band, Widowspeak and more, Silverstein is now turning his attention back across the Atlantic for co-headline shows with Bobby Lee in the UK and Sweden this summer.

Bobby Lee trades in a wide screen brand of cosmic country-folk, full of space and pawn shop guitars. There are touches of JJ Cale’s analogue Americana, the swampy groove of Tony Joe White and Richard Thompson’s sinewy, modal guitar work. Amps hum in the warm afternoon sun, kids and dogs snooze on the grass and broken drum machines keep time with the universe.

Bobby released his debut album, Shakedown in Slabtown, in August 2020, on his own Natural Histories imprint, which Mojo Magazine described as a ‘word of mouth sensation amongst discerning heads’. It was swiftly followed by Origin Myths in March 2021, released on the legendary Tompkins Square Records, becoming album of the week on Huey Morgan’s 6 Music show and gaining support from BBC’s Late Junction, No Depression, the Guardian, NTS and WFMU. His third album Endless Skyways, also Tompkins Square, landed in June 2023, with a return to the full band sound of his debut.

2025 saw the release of Last Ride – a collaboration with ambient pedal steel explorer Joe Harvey-Whyte on LA’s Curation Records (Beachwood Sparks, Pacific Range, Triptides). Taking in Paris, Texas-esque dusty instrumentals, west coast canyon-rock, brit-folk pastoralism, kosmische choogle and new-age mellowness. The UK pair bonded over their broad church approach to cosmic country, where Eno and Arthur Russell stand shoulder to shoulder with Gram and JJ Cale.

Opening this special triple bill is Black Brunswicker. Black Brunswicker is the solo project of Etta Helfrich. Originally from Indiana, USA, Etta moved to Manchester in 2020 and has been based there since. Self-described as ambient folk melancholia, Black Brunswicker is a synthesis of Etta’s musical interests: American primitive and new age guitar, ambient drones and tape-based experimentation, and ecological field recordings.

Drifting guitar melodies, awash in a sea of reverb, are anchored by the soft movements of tape loops and field recordings, creating an immersive listening experience. It’s music with no place to be, encouraging introspection.

Kamera is the brand new venue upstairs at Lloyd &amp; Platt (formerly The Lloyd’s) in Chorlton – by the team behind the Castle Hotel and Gullivers. The pub downstairs offers Indian street food by Chapati Cafe.

<title>Sean Keefe 'The Nebraska Tour' A Tribute To Bruce Springsteen</title>
      <support/>
      <description>The Nebraska Tour - A Tribute
A solo show celebrating the very best of Bruce Springsteen acoustically.
Bruce Springsteen never toured ‘Nebraska’.
But what if he had?

In 1982, Bruce Springsteen released “Nebraska”, a collection of acoustic home recorded demos upon which he’d captured the nature of the songs precisely. Recording sessions with members of The E Street Band had failed to enhance the songs, and Bruce moved instead into turning these and other songs with the band for Born In The USA, the album that made him into a bona fide superstar. The tour broke records.

It would take him another decade to do a full solo acoustic tour.
But what would it have been like if Bruce Springsteen had toured NEBRASKA?
Using only the songs, themes, and instrumentation that Springsteen had written and was using at the time, THE NEBRASKA TOUR TRIBUTE puts together as accurate a representation as you can imagine, of the show that never was.

There will be deep cuts. There will be favourites, restructured and placed in context.

There will be light, darkness, and redemption.

Welcome to The Nebraska Tribute Tour.

The Nebraska Tour Tribute is performed by Sean Keefe, a working musician and Springsteen expert with over 40 years experience of playing Springsteen.

This is NOT a lookalike show.
This is VERY MUCH a soundalike show.

      <title>The Situation @ BottleCraft #2</title>
      <support>Bloody Head + Pound Land + Thick Richard + Rhizocorp</support>
<description>A new series of DiY gigs upstairs at BottleCraft on the 3rd Saturday of the month.

AUGUST LINE UP LOOKS LIKE THIS....................

Bloody Head (Nottingham)
https://bloodyhead.bandcamp.com

Nottingham-based 4-piece Bloody Head deliver a crushing blend of noise rock, post-punk psychedelia and industrial heaviness in a similar vein to the likes of Part Chimp, Hey Colossus, Swans, Gnod. Hypnotic and ritualistic their sound fuses raw energy with sprawling riffs, bleak atmospheres and relentless intensity. Cult favourites on the UK experimental scene with links to Wrong Speed Records, Hominid Sounds, Viral Age, At War With False Noise and Bitter Dose.

Recent releases include 'The Temple Pillars Dissolve Into The Clouds' (2021) 'Perpetual Eden' (2024) 'Eden in Retrograde' (2024 remix/reimagining project) 'Bend Down And Kiss The Ground' (2026)

Pound Land (Midlands)
https://poundland1.bandcamp.com

The Midlands-based noise-punk collective described as “kitchen-sink punk-dirge absurdism”
Industrial repetition, post-punk bleakness and savage black humour. Pound Land's music channels the frustrations of modern Britain into a chaotic, hypnotic barrage of heavy grooves, surreal social commentary delivered in Adam Stone's demented howl and moan vocals . A Pound Land live show is loud, darkly funny and utterly uncompromising.

Thick Richard (Manchester)
https://youtu.be/xoV0-nRy73Q?si=glnqa1fkuhGI01Jj

Cult Northern spoken-word performer who sits somewhere between punk poet, stand-up comic and performance artist. Heavily associated with Manchester’s alternative poetry and cabaret circuit Thick Richard has a reputation for darkly funny, profane, highly performative poetry rooted in Northern life, cynicism, social observation and absurd storytelling.

Published work includes: 'Read ’Em and Weep' and 'Vaudavillain', through Flapjack Press.

Rhizocorp (Leeds)
https://youtu.be/Zg_54CzHklA?si=yZpDN1aBpI-NY0l0

Rhizocorp is the experimental audio-visual project of Leeds-born artist Jim Osman — a collision of sci-fi dance-punk, industrial dub, post-punk noise, and drone. A soundscape of hypnotic rhythms, live manipulation, dub techniques and post-cyberpunk themes. Rhizocorp creates immersive performances that are equal parts underground club ritual and experimental sound art. Heavy bass, fractured electronics, surreal futuristic atmospheres pushing beyond conventional genre boundaries.

      <title>The Lost Cadres + Blush</title>
<support>Swirling Psychedelic Garage Rock from the South Coast</support>
      <description>THE LOST CADRES
------------------------
The Lost Cadres are a psychedelic garage‑rock band based in Sussex, drawing on a rich lineage of influential artists including The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and The Velvet Underground. Their sound blends hypnotic grooves, fuzz‑laden guitars and a distinctly atmospheric edge, creating music that feels both timeless and defiantly modern.
Formed on the South Coast, The Lost Cadres have built a reputation for immersive live performances that balance raw energy with a deep sense of mood and texture. Their songs move between driving, motorik rhythms and swirling, reverb‑drenched psychedelia, anchored by a commitment to melody and a reverence for the classic innovators of the genre.
With a growing presence across the Sussex music scene, The Lost Cadres continue to refine a sonic identity that bridges vintage rock ’n’ roll spirit with contemporary underground sensibilities. They are currently developing new material and expanding their live footprint, positioning themselves as one of the region’s most compelling emerging acts.

BLUSH

      <title>Saturday RnB Lunch | The RnB Collective</title>
<support>90s and 00s R&amp;B favourites performed live over Saturday lunch, with DJ sets, three-course dining and a lively weekend feel</support>
      <description>Lunch reservations from 12pm | Live music from 1pm to 3pm | DJ from 12pm to 4pm

By the time The R&amp;B Collective takes the stage, the room is already warmed up. The DJ starts from midday, lunch is on the table and the soundtrack is pure 90s and 00s R&amp;B.

After a run of sold-out evening shows, the five-piece band returns to Boisdale with the songs people still know every word to. Expect smooth vocals, rich harmonies, deep basslines and soulful horn lines, with classics inspired by TLC, Usher, Blackstreet, Donell Jones and Ne-Yo.

The set moves from slow jams to singalong hooks and dancefloor favourites, bringing the feel of the era into a live setting without overworking it. It is polished, warm and full of those “I forgot how good this song is” moments.

A resident DJ keeps things moving from 12pm to 4pm, with classic R&amp;B and soulful throwbacks before and after the live set.

Served alongside Boisdale’s three-course lunch, this is a Saturday made for birthdays, catch-ups, celebrations and groups that want good food with a proper soundtrack. The first-floor bar and outdoor terrace are open for post-show drinks until late, subject to availability.

      <title>LET THERE B/DC</title>
      <support/>
<description>Since 2011, LET THERE B/DC have been detonating stages across the UK with one mission: to bring the raw power, danger, and electricity of a golden-era AC/DC show roaring back to life. Capturing the spirit of 70s and ’80s era AC/DC wasn’t supposed to be easy—but time and again, fans leave convinced they’ve just witnessed the real thing.

With hundreds of shows under their belts and thousands of rock fans converted, LET THERE B/DC have earned a reputation as one of the most authentic and exhilarating tribute acts on the circuit. This isn’t nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake, this is a full-throttle, no-compromise, rock ’n’ roll experience.
Their current five-man lineup has had AC/DC coursing through their veins since childhood, and that lifelong obsession explodes into every relentless, two-hour-plus performance.

Expect the anthems that defined generations. Highway to Hell, Whole Lotta Rosie, Thunderstruck and many more delivered with spine-tingling precision and ferocity.
But LET THERE B/DC go further, digging deep into the catalogue with rare and seldom-heard gems like Walk All Over You, Overdose, and Kicked in the Teeth, ensuring even the most die-hard fans are kept on their toes.

Anchored by their original “engine room” of Neil (Malcolm Young), Paddy (Phil Rudd), and Steve (Cliff Williams), the band provides the unstoppable drive that allows Dave (Angus Young) and Andrew (Brian Johnson/Bon Scott) to truly cut loose and take the show to another level.
No two setlists are ever the same, because real rock ’n’ roll should always live on the edge.

There’s only one question left… Are you ready to rock!?

      <title>XSLF</title>
      <support/>
<description>XSLF started in 2013 when original Stiff Little Fingers guitarist Henry Cluney and former bandmate Jim O’Reilly got in touch after many years. Henry had been playing solo but wanted to form a band. As a band they only play music they were actually involved in so that means the first three SLF records – Inflammable Material, Nobody’s Heroes, and Go For It. Since then they have toured and written new material. The current lineup is a punk powerhouse and a celebration of those early SLF days.

      <title>The Saturday Brunch Club</title>
<support>A DJ-led Saturday brunch with global grooves, live elements and a two-course menu with Bellini, plus optional free-flowing wine.</support>
      <description>Brunch from 12:00pm | Last Reservation 3:00pm | Music 12:30-3:30pm

The Saturday Brunch Club runs every weekend on the first floor, and the format is straightforward: a two-course brunch, a Boisdale Bellini on arrival and a DJ from the Boisdale live music roster in the booth. The terrace overlooks Cabot Square and the fountain, it is heated and there is no timer on the afternoon.

The DJ rotates weekly, which means the music shifts depending on who is playing. Live instrumental elements come in across the set. Add free-flowing wine if the occasion calls for it.

Two-course brunch with a complimentary Boisdale Bellini – £39.50

Add free-flowing red, white or sparkling wine – £25 per person

<description>A Very Special Exclusive East Anglian Summer Matinee!

The UK’s biggest country music export, THE SHIRES have announced an intimate acoustic tour for 2026 with an exclusive Lavenham, Suffolk date on Saturday, 15th August 2026. This will see Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes performing all their classic tracks.

THE SHIRES achievements speak for themselves: three consecutive UK Top 3 albums, four #1 UK Country albums, 100 million+ streams, two Gold-certified records, and countless sold-out headline shows, including filling the prestigious Royal Albert Hall.

THE SHIRES first broke through in 2014 with their single ‘Nashville Grey Skies’, a playful song about Britain needing its own country scene. And that’s something which they helped happen, starting with their 2015 debut Brave, which became the first ever Top 10 album by a UK country music artist. That success continued with a succession of hit albums: 2016’s My Universe, 2018’s Accidentally On Purpose, 2020’s Good Years and 2022’s 10 Year Plan.

Their authenticity saw them embraced by the Nashville scene immediately, leading to two CMA Awards, touring highlights including C2C Festival and shows as guests to Carrie Underwood, Little Big Town, The Corrs and more.

This show is reserved seating and Picnic Area. Reserved Seating is fully undercover and will be allocated on the day.

Picnic Area: Located to the outside of the structure on the grass to the left. This has a good view of the stage and show sound. You are allowed to bring food, pop-up chairs and small tables but not alcohol.

Parking: On-site parking (fee applies). We have a limited number of Self-Contained Camper Vehicles/Caravans (maximum length: 7 metres) parking spaces and Tent pitches. Arrival from 12pm on day of concert. Concert tickets need to be purchased separately. (24hrs on-site).

For all enquiries / disabled bookings, please call the Box Office on 01256 416384.

Cumbrian power pop-punk pair ☆VOODOO RADIO☆ consisting of singer/drummer Paige and guitarist Tony, unleashed their debut 10” mini-album POP PILLS – a collection of eight self-penned, and deliciously infectious two-and-a-half minute pop songs of pure relentless, raw power out on Holy Dotage Records in 2022. The duo started rocking the tunnels of Leicester Square tube station, London in 2018, stopping commuters and tourists alike in their tracks with a mesmerising ‘Summer of 76’ power-pop sound.
Tony, a seasoned performer was inspired by hearing Slaves on the radio and suggested to young Paige: “Get two shoe boxes, anything that’s like a drum stick – a table knife and a wooden spoon and see if you can sing and play rhythms whilst hitting a beat” – Paige certainly could and Voodoo Radio were manifested.

☆The Dollheads☆
Composed of siblings Angela Avery (vocals, lead guitar), Samantha Avery (bass, backup vocals), and Austin Avery (drums), The Dollheads are a rising force within punk’s modern new wave of young talent. Beginning their musical journeys when Angela was just 10 years old, the siblings have been playing music together since they were in elementary school. Establishing for themselves an energetic and upbeat artistry, the group conveys a charming and hard-hitting musicality that has cemented them as one of indie punk’s most exciting rising acts.
The Las Vegas-based punk trio were active in 2025 with new music, including the album Adol-essence, and several festival appearances, such as SBAM Fest in Austria and another set at Rebellion in the UK. They continue to tour, with recent shows in the western U.S. and England, and have established themselves with their 2022 album What Teenage Angst and 2023 EP Et Cetera. Their music often addresses themes of mental health, feminism, and identity

It’s time, Brothers &amp; Sisters, to be seen on the scene with ☆Quick Romance☆
Hayden James, on lead guitar, and Gabe Thomas on bass are the rock’n’roll bookends that were Wayne Kramer and Fred “Sonic” Smith, redrawn for the here and now. The boys see themselves as “two straws in the same Coke” (other gut-rotting, thirst-quenching, shit-coloured drinks are available).

Quick Romance singer, Matilda Scotland, slapped Ian Hunter down in the first round to relieve him of his shades, which she now wears proudly as she warns us of the perils of growing up in a big bad world. She likes clothes, music and Brian Jones’s hair.

Making more signals than Thomas The Tank Engine could shake a drum stick at, drummer Oliver Bull-Lifely, moves like a wind chime in a tropical storm, he is the time-keeper’s time-keeper. Unlike the White Rabbit, you can’t set you watch by him, but who wears a watch these days?

If you want to know what you are about to experience, why don’t you try imagining Poly Styrene joining The Sick Things for a chorus of “Bondage Boy”. If you don’t want to know, why don’t you…

And, for the record, teen punks Quick Romance will sing for Scotland Yard… if the price is right.

      <title>Park Drive</title>
      <support>Special Guests+DJs</support>
<description>Bug Bear and Border Live are proud to present the debut tour of Britpop band Park Drive.

Founded in Wickford, Essex, Park Drive is taking its mission on the road for the first time. Formed in response to the decline of pure, iconic British guitar music, Park Drive exists to bring real, honest songs back to the people.

Fusing the influence of the UK’s greatest bands – Oasis, The Stone Roses, Arctic Monkeys, Blur, Sex Pistols and more – their sound is unapologetically British, loud and built to make you feel alive.

Expect soaring hooks, snarling guitars, and the raw energy of a band with something to say and the confidence to say it loud. The Britpop revival is here, and Park Drive is taking charge of it.

Linda Smith
+ Troutflies
The Crescent, York
Sunday 16th August, 6.30pm
Tickets are £14 (+ b/f) in advance and available from See Tickets.

*This is a seated show with all seating unreserved*

Linda Smith is a pioneer of home recording who self released her music originally on cassette starting in 1987. In the early 90’s, indie labels Slumberland and Harriet Records expanded her reach with the release of two seven inch eps.

Recently, Brooklyn NY label Captured Tracks has reissued two complete albums on vinyl and she has begun to tour in the US and internationally for the first time.

Paste magazine called her “a hidden treasure of America's pop underground”, while Jangle Pop Hub has written that “Essentially this is the best bedroom pop you are ever likely to hear, directly from an age that did not really know what to do with it”.

Support comes from Troutflies, a sometimes-quartet playing loose, woozy punk and experimental lo-fi pop, occasionally with dualing melodica's.

Steam Kittens are a punk band based in Ilkeston Derbyshire. Reforming in 2016 after a 20 year break the original lineup Tucky vocals, Bill guitar, Craig bass and Gav drums hit the road again playing all over the country. Gradually the lineup Changed with Tucky retiring and being replaced by Tom next Craig retired with Scott jumping at the chance to fill his boots in 2022. Next Bill retired and Tom left leaving Gav as the only original member and Scott on bass. After a bit of soul searching, it was decided to go forward as a 3 piece with the addition of Jamie in 2024 on guitar and vocals bringing a fresh edge to the sound. With the new line up Steam kittens are still playing all over the country louder and bolder than ever before.

      <title>Madrigirl (Jude Rees) / Juliana Day</title>
<support>A dizzying array of ancient instruments and electronics, a fusion of historical sounds and modern technology, and a whole heap of joy!</support>
<description>Recently selected as one of BBC Radio 3 Late Junction’s “Sounds of 2025”, Jude Rees is a genre-defying oboist and multi-instrumentalist based in the Midlands, UK. Her noise is new/old, breathing new life into old instruments and fusing historical sounds with modern circuitry to create her own sonic lexicon. Under her solo moniker MADRIGIRL, Jude reimagines early music through a contemporary lens, diving deep into the raw source material of ancient polyphony and reconstructing it with live-looped improvisations, her own compositions, and a rich tapestry of drones.
Her live performances feature a bewildering array of instruments, including shawms, English border bagpipes, crumhorns, hurdy gurdy, synths, electronics and voice, all woven into immersive, otherworldly soundscapes. It’s experimental music with warmth, intelligence and edge.
As an ensemble musician, Jude has collaborated with some of the luminaries of the British folk scene and has guested on numerous albums and tours, working with artists such as Will Pound, Pilgrims' Way, Jim Moray, Isambarde, Circulus and Dave Swarbrick. Beyond the stage, Jude regularly collaborates on projects for film, theatre, and broadcast, with credits including The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, Revolution X, Royal Bastards: Rise of the Tudors, and productions and recordings with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Juliana’s music uses a haunting combination of the lower family of recorders, whistles, vocalisations, found sounds and field recordings, building layered, looping compositions that are both dark, beautiful and dreamlike.

Described as “fascinating and contemplative” (Jazzwise), her music takes influence from choral music, folk, early music, minimalism and artists such as Tim Hecker, Kali Malone, Steve Reich, Ichiko Aoba, William Basinski and Pauline Oliveros.

Her debut album “lull”, commissioned by NFOJAiM, and released on New Jazz and Improvised Recordings explores interludes- things that serve “in between” functions- places, periods of time, journeys, dreams and stages of life.

"that was a real journey wasn't it? The deft use of echo there to create this sinuous texture of sound. That was absolutely beautiful" - Freeness, BBC Radio 3

      <title>Sunday Jazz Lunch | Frank Sinatra</title>
<support>Stephen Triffitt performs Sinatra classics live with a full band, paired with Boisdale’s two-course Sunday lunch.</support>
<description>“Stephen Triffitt is the best. The greatest. Because he captures the soul of my Father.” — Frank Sinatra Jr.

Some performers study Sinatra. Stephen Triffitt inhabits him. Direct from Las Vegas, he brings a show built on timing, phrasing and the quiet confidence that defined Sinatra at his peak.

From "My Way" and "New York, New York" to "I’ve Got You Under My Skin" and "That’s Life", the set moves through songs that were written to be lived in, not just sung. Backed by a superb live band, Triffitt delivers them with control and ease, letting the arrangements breathe while keeping that unmistakable swing intact.

His credentials are not decorative. Triffitt starred as Sinatra in the original West End production of The Rat Pack Live and has sold out the London Palladium, building a reputation as one of the most respected interpreters of this music anywhere.

This is Sinatra as it works best, up close, well played and without excess.

Alongside the performance, guests can enjoy Boisdale’s two-course Sunday lunch, including the 18-hour slow-roasted dry-aged rib of Scottish beef, goose fat roast potatoes and classic sides, with vegetarian options also available.
